Inventory Management Tips for Fashion Brands
How fashion sellers can track stock by variant, avoid dead inventory, and restock with more confidence.
Track variants, not just products
Fashion inventory becomes risky when a product looks healthy overall but one key size or color is nearly gone. A dress with 40 units in stock can still lose sales if the popular black medium variant is unavailable.
Track size, color, cost price, selling price, and stock together. That gives you a clearer view of which variants need restocking and which are tying up cash.
Define low-stock rules early
A low-stock threshold should reflect lead time and sales velocity. Fast-moving basics need earlier warnings than occasional statement pieces.
Start with a simple rule, review it weekly, and adjust once you know which products sell consistently.
Use sales data for buying decisions
Restocking should not be based only on instinct. Compare revenue, margin, and sell-through before placing the next order.
If a product sells quickly but has weak margin, revisit pricing. If it has high margin but slow movement, improve presentation or reduce future buying depth.
